DDR steps

Educational games don’t mean learners have to sit at a computer! Many new technologies get you on your feet.

  • Check out the “exergames” section where we blend learning with fitness:  get your sports fix with golf and tennis on the Nintendo Wii, or dance the night away with DDR (Dance, Dance Revolution) and other movement applications.
  • Join the speed and excitement of wheel–to-wheel racing at the CYFAR R/C Raceway! NH will demonstrate its exciting SET programming through the building and racing of 1/10 scale radio controlled cars. Then explore program ideas that have you walking the streets while you learn your community and your world with digital photography, video, GPS, cell-phones, iPods, and other hand-held technologies.

Do the things you dream about but can’t do! Simulations provide a chance to build skills and experience new roles– from managing a political campaign to doing relief services in the aftermath of a natural disaster, from traveling through outer space to viewing our world from the bird’s eye view, from negotiating peace between warring countries to solving the problems underlying global climate change. We’ll showcase a variety of the most popular educational online simulations such as Food Force and Power Politics, and give you an opportunity to interact and perform with learners in Second Life.

A key part of learning is sharing what you learn – writing about it, producing it, publishing it.  Participatory technologies are a hot trend that have youth and adults writing, producing and publishing their experiences, opinions and learning – from online videos to blogs. We’ll demonstrate how you and your program participants can demonstrate their leadership, share their insights, and learn key communication skills as you publish your work online.

In this time of global change and upheaval, technology tools are creating new challenges and opportunities for us all.  To flourish in the twenty-first century, we all need to learn new concepts and develop new skills to enable us to access information and services, to use our creativity and problem solving skills, and to engage in our community and participate in our world.  It is time for all of us to learn about and embrace these tools so we can better assist our CYFAR participants in developing the skills to face these challenges.  Don't miss this exciting opportunity!

This year's learning arcade will be held during the Program Showcase in the Grand Ballroom, and in the Computer Lab (Grand Salons I-IV). Check both sites to be sure that you experience it all.
