Build a Playground in a Day

Building a playground in the host city is a CYFAR tradition. This one was built in San Antonio in 2008.
Fourth Annual CYFAR/KaBOOM! Playground Build
Monday, May 18
8 am ― 4 pm
Please come to pre-conference on May 18 and lend a hand to providing a safe, fun and healthy place for children to play and families to gather for many years to come.
In just one day, CYFAR, Maryland Cooperative Extension and the community will transform an empty lot at 1400 Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore into an exciting playground for children of all ages. The playground design will be based on drawings completed by the children at the community site who take part in “Design Day” lead by KaBOOM!
No construction or building skills are required. Everyone will have a job to do, whether assembling playground equipment, gardening, painting or serving food to other participants. No tools or equipment are needed, but please bring a pair of work gloves.
Bus transportation will be provided from the CYFAR conference hotel (Baltimore Marriott Waterfront) at 8 am and returning at about 4 pm. Food and drinks will be provided throughout the day.
The third annual CYAR / KaBOOM! "Playground-in-a-Day" preconference is organized by KaBOOM!, CYFAR, the University of Maryland faculty and staff, local 4-H youth and community volunteers. The local partner is Adopt-a-Block, Inc.
KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization that empowers communities to build playgrounds. Its leaders believe that play has purpose and that unstructured play in particular helps make children happier, fitter, smarter, more socially adept and creative.
